Subject: Re: Are there any SAAB 9000 CS owners?

Have a -92 2.3T (Automatic, 200Hp but torqe limited to 300Nm) soon to be replaced by a new 9-5 Wagon, delivery early September. Nice luxury feeling to drive (leather etc.), feels like a sliding rocket - a bit clumpsy, but steady, solid and whenever you want really fast. And safe in the winter too. The automatic gearbox matches the enginge superbly (but maybe a bit weak, was replaced by the previous owner due a coolant leak in it). When I'we tried other cars like the 9-5 or BMWs I appreciate them for the new-car feeling and the improved comfort, but when I get back to my old 9000 I realise I will miss the car... the Saab really feels like a friend, kind of, any detail you look at you understand that someone has been concerned about that thing (and you!) put alot of effort in it and tried to make the best solution for you. We'll see if the 9-5 gives the same feeling... The car is really solidly engineered, there can't be that many cars with that amount of bolts and nuts, you realise why the car was so expensive to assemble. Given the small series of Saab and all the stuff they put into the cars I think it is surprisingly reliable. The problems I've had mostly relate to previous owner(s), or rather, his workshop. All parts are Saab original but sometimes it seems they didn't know how to do the job. Had a problem with the climate control, every time after about 30 minutes a whistling or gurgling sound appeared while the cold disappeared. I checked all component but could not locate the problem until I found that someone, knowledgeable enough to find the spot to do this but dishonest enough to actually do it, had bypassed the system that halts the compressor when the vaporizer gets to cold and ice is built up. That person (probably the same that caused my other problems) did this to overcome a disconnection in the sensor loop of the system. This disconnection in a connector close to the pressure monitor was probably due to it being soaked in oil, oil that stemmed from a crack under a bolt in the valve cover, probably caused by some over-ambitious mechanic. Fixed the disconnection by inserting a small cupper-lead in it. Havn't fixed the leak yet. Also had a broblem with lack of bass in the radio. Found that the "mounted" amplifier was for a CC and requires a separate woofer, which there is no for the CS. Since it didn't fit the CS it wasn't even fastned but lay loose in the fender. A woofer box from Pioneer that fitted into the spare wheel and some bending and drilling I managed to secure the amplifier Also had some problems with main light until I found that the spring that hold the bulb was replaced by the wrong spring. The low pressure on the bulb caused a bad connection and heat enough to melt the soldering of the bulb, so I never could get a good light picture. After replacing the spring and the bulb - no problems. The car seems to have had a tough life on the Autobahn (imported from Germany to Sweden) and it probably has many more miles on it than the odo says (how can the rubber surface of the automatic gear selector be worn out and why does the wind screen look like being blasted on a 10k miles car?) so it might be the right move to replace it anyway ....
