Andy, I hate to tell you, but basically if your transmission is making any audible noise at all, you've got a problem. And, 132K is certainly in the ballpark for that tranny to need rebuilding. In my experience, there's only one tiny exception to this: at idle in neutral if you listen really hard as you let the clutch in and out, you can hear a tiny "whirring" noise caused by the gear teeth hitting each other. But out on the road, the other noises of the car easily mask this. Also, I must disagree with something another poster said here. Over the course of owning/fixing a bunch of 900's, I've probably purchased about 10 junkyard transmissions. Upon inspection, all of them had significant bearing wear, and most showed signs of oil leakage. A couple even had water in the oil! So if you want a solid, reliable car, I would either go with a rebuilt unit from a reputable supplier (Erikkson Industries in Connecticut), or find a local Saab expert who will rebuild a junkyard unit for you.
