I finally gave in and started driving in a manner which made sure the light *never* turned on (basically, shifting a bit earlier than the light tells me to...) Amazingly, I went from an average 24mi/gal to 30mi/gal fuel economy between fill-ups. No change in anything except for the upshift thing. For me, that alone is worth it...
