Subject: Re: OK to draw power from rear running lights?

Here is what I have done with my SAAB. I have taken the amp wire and wired the live wire to the antenna power source. My amp has a sensing wire, which I also wired to the antenna power source. The antenna receives power only when the ignition is turned on. This way, I can switch the amp on and off with the power. It is a 220W Jensen amp. I have done the same antenna trick with a toyota celica as well. I have never run into any problems. Just be sure that the amp has it's separate fuse just in case. I've tried wiring the amp to light circuits before. That didn't work out to well. I didn't blow any fuses, but like someone stated before, I don't believe those circuits are built to handle that kinda of power. Also, when the music hits a peak, it will dimm all the lights on the same circuit. Not a very pleasant thing. Hope that sheds some light on this topic. Not a very recommended setup, but I have yet to run into problems with it. (I've done this for about 4 years now.)
