John, Perform a pressure test on the cooling system before anything else. Check your exhaust when you first start your car. If you see vapor coming out of the exhaust and you are lucky, it could be either of two bad things. No.1 bad thing: Head Gasket No.2 bad thing (if you are very lucky) intake manifold gasket. And finally, if you are totally out of luck ( this doesn't qualify as a bad thing cause it's worse than bad) : the SAAB curse, cracked head.
