I had similar problem on 84 900 Turbo Vacuum line from top of intake manifold was split, caused same simptons you have and also caused fuel smell. Check if you can here any vacuum leaks. Old vacuum lines tend to split. As for the Air Filter (PAIN IN THE ...) I replaced mine by removing air ducts conecting to air box, removed the mount on fuel filter to allow the fuel lines to move freely, remove the screws on air box lid (just below injector), and carefully lifting the lid and injector unit up and back enough to get the air filter out. The air filter in mine had about a 1/4" of gunk on it guess the previous owners couldn't figure it out. Mine is a turbo unit so yours maybe a little different. If anyone has a better way love to know for next time Good luck Paul R. Nolette > - If the car has been sitting for a few hours, and it starts up, it > doesn't like to stay running at first.
