Of course, here in New England, Saabs get less stares than, say, the midwest. I saw a guy in an Escalade double take when he saw my Saab. (choice of surface protection) If you want to keep it safe from swirls, hand wash it with a hose (cold water) and a soft sponge for the forst 6 or 7 months until the finish has completely hardened. Believe it or not, it really does take a while. Don't take it through an automatic car wash right out of the showroom. > Concern that the bottom will fall out of the resale value > for no good reason tempered with reason where, if the Plan > works out, my daughter will take the long-tern keeper-Saab > to university and beyond while I have the new Viggen. I'm not worried about the resale value of my Viggen. I intend to drive it into the ground. > Minor concern: which snow tires to buy. I'm leaning towards Nokian Hakkapelitas. Some advice: avoid getting the "sound upgrade" package from Saab. A little money at a reputable car stereo place will go much further. I just wish I could put a minidisc changer in my glove box. > Longer term: rack, either for roof or tail; probably Thule. > rear mudflaps and spare, water-catching, winter-only, > rubber floor coverings. I know what you mean. I replaced my factory floormats with the more durable ones in the Saab catalog, and bought a european style "SAAB" badge to replace the dealer plate in the front. I also think I'll replace that grey formica on the dash with the burled walnut. > Scented dice for rear-view mirror. Fear: I'll do something stupid and scrape my paint squeezing into some insanely small Boston parking spot. Have no fear about it being stolen, however. The new Saabs are way too hard to steal for a joyride, and the black market for Saab parts is non existent. I'm more worried about someone stealing the little Viggen badges off the side of my car than having the car itself stolen. > Teachable moments: off-ramps and on-ramps where front/back > seat passengers receive instructions on how to actually > *use* the headliner-mounted hand grips to stabilize > theselves (esp on the leather seats) as the Europeans do. > Looks funny; and is especially so when all do it at the > same time. But works surprisingly well. Viggen moments: those same off-ramps at 65 mph. > * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network * > The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free! -- {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} \|/ {} RogerW rogerwnopsamguy.com {} 0< -- parrot.net! {} http://www.parrot.net adminnopsamot.net {} ^^^^(*)^^^^ {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{} ^^ / \ ^^
