Subject: Re: ? about car running a little hot

The problem is related to the thermo-switch/radiator fan connection located on the left hand side of radiator (top). Connect volt meter to one contact of thermoswitch while engine is running and you should read 12 volts. Now connect volt meter to other switch contact (it should read zero). When the switch/radiator has reached temp, the volt meter will read 12 volts and the fan should kick on. If it doesn't read 12 volts, the switch should be replaced, if the fan doesn't come on, try connecting the fan directly to 12 volt source to verify the opeation of the fan, if fan does not work, replace fan. If switch works and fan works, the problem is in wiring (Simple fix is the run wire directly from "No volt" side of thermoswitch directly to fans bypassing the wiring harness.) I have an 86 900 and I am constantly finding wires that have the insulation crumbled creating either shorts or opens and I had the exact same problem! Good Luck!
