Subject: Re: confused 99 or 900

I have had a '74 99 and 6 900s of various combinations (8v, 16v, 5-speed, auto, classic, NG, turbo, non-turbo). I currently have an '82 900T 8v and a '98 900T 16v. The '82 is still strong at 155K miles. The 900 is easier to work on than the 99, because the engine compartment is a lot larger. parts for the 99 are getting more scarce. Putting the 16v engine in the 99 is a BIG job. The turbo engine lasts a long time. I don't think it's any less reliable than the non-turbo, but previous owners may have tended to abuse it more than they would the non-turbo. Good preventive maintenance is the key; maintenance records for any car you buy are a requirement! Do NOT get the classic 900 non-turbo with the 3-speed auto -- it's a DOG! If you can find a good 8v turbo 5-speed at a good price, go for it! I admit the 16v engine is a lot more fun, though... ----------------- John Weiss Seattle, WA remove *nospam* from e-mail address for reply TheoMar <theomarnopsamknet.nl> wrote in message news:37E87F07.49A2D6D0nopsamknet.nl... > Hi, > I own a 1983 Saab 99 GL 5 speed for about 51/2 years now.
