I drive a 93 SAAB 9000CS, 97000 miles.. Well the idler pulley finally failed, bearing locked up.. I got the spindle I needed from a great SAAB mom and pop place $21.00. Same item from the dealer $97.00, U get a extra useful (but not damming) washer and the bolt. In addition, picked up the secondary spindle for $35.00, (prices much better than from the SAAB dealer). Anyways, a special tool is needed to compress a small spring unit to make you to be able to put the SERPENTINE belt over all the equipment, the belt controls, i.e.. A/C, PWR steeing, alternator, water pump etc. well call me cheap... is there a way to make a garage version of the tool or can someone point me where to buy the real deal tool..???? Mom and Pop place do not loan tools, figure the SAAB dealer.... any help or suggestions are welcomed.. After all the web searching, no one mentions this common problem w/ 93 SAAB's.. hopes this query helps others with there car on jacks waiting for a tip.. thanks.. from Denver Colorado SAAB owner...
