Sounds like the throw-out bearings on the clutch-"Clutch release Bearings" Not a big deal-comes w/ the clutch kit. Frank Josh Landess wrote in message <37fdaf71.7047331nopsam>... Recently, as I paid for some miscellaneous staying-on-top-of-it stuff, my mechanic told me that the noise he heard from my transmission signaled that the day was at hand when I would have to bring it in for that thing everyone warned me about when I bought my Saab. I have no problems with him, and what he is saying was not dissimilar to what another mechanic had said a few thousand miles ago. So, I am inclined to take it into him soon, once I get the money. How long can I wait? Do the symptoms come on gradually, or am I risking car-death every day? At present the only symptom seems to be a small sound when the car is in neutral, and the clutch pedal is released. When the pedal is pushed in, the noise goes away. Any thoughts? I have been doing a number of things right (not resting my hand on the shift, puasing a fraction of a second in between gears) and one thing wrong (I sometimes get frustrated with So. Cal. traffic and shift into first when the car is at 2 or 3 mph.) jl 89 Saab Turbo Convertible 150k
