Subject: How often to change the oil

While we are on the oil question- Why is it that SAAB recommends 10k between changes in my 99 9-5 in the owners manual? They mention "changing more often if city driving" but it implies do that at 5000 mile intervals. On my 900, the owner's manual references about 6000 miles between changes. I know the quick oil places say 3000 miles, but I always thought that was to get you in more often so they could charge you more often. Is there anything terribly wrong with going with the owners manual, or slightly more conservative? Or am I doing harm to my engine??
