Sorry, but you're wrong about spending the money for tires. I blew out 2 Michelin Pilot HX's on my '93 Aero, both sidewalls without ever damaging them. Went to Nitto's for summer and Pirelli winter SPs for winter and am very pleased with the balance of dry, wet, snow, ice handling with this combination. The michelin's were fine in the dry, wet, but terrible in any snow/ice. They also wear very quickly and no one in New England can exploit ther performance envelope without either being crazy or having very large liability insurance.
