Subject: Re: Comments Please - 96 900SE Mileage

Other than the fact that the 65K service will be due soon, not really. It might need new tires and stuff but so long as it's been taken care of it should do you perfectly. I was nervous to buy my 96 900SE with 59K miles on the clock at first... but now I've had it a year and am up to 85,000 miles... and the only maintenance realistically I've done were; 65K service New Struts New tires (twice... crap tires first time) A/C compressor switch problem Broken power antenna Not really that bad... and the car runs like a dream! For tires I would heartily recommend Fulda's... they're a great German make of tire... and they are quiet, soft enough to give a good ride and Z-rated!!!! Handling is great, but they seem to make low-speed turning very hard and stiff even with the power steering. Don't buy Falken Ziex... I had a set on right after I bought the car and I dumped them 10K miles later because they got noisy as hell and the ride really suffered. Upcoming problems? Well, I know I have a problem with the A/C compressor itself... when the switch was broken the A/C compressor fell out of use for who knows how long! Because it's designed to be run all the time it seems a bearing started to fail during that time. It's not severe, but it can be noisy when it gets warm. I'll be replacing that probably next March or April before it gets hot again... in mild weather it runs just fine. I also have an intermittent problem with the drivers heated seat which I'll be investigating at the weekend. Probably just a bad wire or connector. Personally I think you should go for it! Saab's are WONDERFUL drivers cars... out of both of my cars my 900 is my favorite (the other being a 2000 Pontiac GTP), and a BLAST to drive hard. Hope this helps!! Oh, BTW, mine is just the 2.0Turbo... but still damned powerful enough. Did they even make a 2.3Turbo that year?
