Subject: Re: RE: Antifreeze odor in 9000 CSE

Hi John: When I got my '93 9000 CSE from Tom Donney Motors in Iowa (an unfortunate experience - much like any other used car purchase gone bad, with inept or thoughtless mechanics "prepping" the car), on the initial attempt to drive it the 500 miles or so home we noticed the same sickly sweet odor..... _obviously_ the heater core since the dealer had just replaced it, and there was an oily film on the windshield interior. After driving it back to the dealer and leaving it so they could fix that and numerous other details (screws they had removed but forgotten to put back in, things they had supposedly fixed but hadn't, etc), it turns out that it was just a pinhole in the upper radiator hose, blowing a small stream of coolant against the false firewall (somehow the coolant was getting past the ventilation filter). You might want to check out something like that first. While I'm not at all pleased with the dealer, they did go far out of their way to correct the problem by replacing the core (again) along with doing the airbag controller recall, and changing out the ventilation fan while they were in there. Of course.....that was while the sale was still pending......
