Subject: Re: 9-3 not a performance car?

It all comes down to what you define as an enthusiasts car. Saab's are not hard edged performance cars like a Dodge Viper of course. But the performace of the Saab 9-3 on the highway is simply stunning. Acceleration and passing is effortless. If you're drag racing, then a bit of clutch slip is required to get away quickly, but it can be done....even from a rolling start a 9-3 will spin its tires in sheer torque alone. A Saab is definitely not a run of the mill car such as a Camary or Accord (although these are superb cars in their ow right). Saabs lean more then BMWs but they do grip well and handle with precision. They also ride very nicely and have superb high speed stability. I've had mine up to 220 kph so far and it tracks as straight as an arrow with no drama whatsoever, very impressive. The 9-3 also has outstanding brakes which reign in the car with confidence. Its definitley not a car someone who has no enthusiasm will put up with as it does have some minor quirks and in car (cabin) storage is not that great. Shift qulity could also be improved, as cold clutch take up. But it is a superb can nevertheless. I have not yet driven a BMW (I don't like the image beemers project although I admire their engineering). I like my 9-3 a lot. But is a 9-5 Aero worth the same $$ as an A6 2.7 turbo? Not bloody likly!!. Mark Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
