Subject: New 9000 owner questions

Just got my "new to me" 92 9000S and had a few questions to ask the list. Background - 92 9000S with 143000 miles. Clutch/manual tranny replaced recently, as was: DI cassete, timing chain, heater core, motor mounts, tie rod ends, shift lever joint, fuel pump, and many others. Questions as follows: 1) I am getting a rattle from the alternator that the mechanic I had inspect the car said was a bad alternator bearing. Said the alternator needed replacement. Is this worth doing myself (other posts state this is at least 2-3 hours work) or should I just pay for it. If I do it myself, where would I get a good reman'ed alternator? Are any special tools needed? 2) The factory installed radio intermittently shorts out (dies) and flickers. Is this common? Just a loose connection or something more insidious? 3) Finally, the engine cooling fan does not seem to want to come on. Temp gage does not seem to rise above halfway point on highway, but haven't tried sitting in traffic yet. Looked at the quasimotor site and saw some diagnostics that I will try this week, but any other hints/tips on diagnosing? BTW, only one relay in the fuse box (center mounted). The bay to the left of that relay is empty. Thanks in advance for the help. This list has already been a tremendous help in researching this car and finding out about some of the notorious Saab quirks to look for. Loving my saab so far.
