I've typically changed oil every 3-4k miles for previous cars (last car was a '95 Maxima SE w/ 105,000 miles). I assume I should continue the same pattern but service mgr at the dealership where I purchased the car said I'm just wasting my money and should wait 'til 7.5k miles. 2) For the same car, the Driver Information Center (DIC) consistently underestimates the "range of miles" I have available before I run out of gas ... and the low fuel light (and chimes) activate when I have at least 4-5 gallons of gas left -- while the gauge indicates I have only a couple of gallons left. I assume the fault is with the fuel tank sender ... what can be done to have it (and the fuel gauge and corresponding low fuel light/chime) calibrated more correctly? I assume this is covered under warranty -- correct? 3) When does the engine become sufficiently broken in so that I'm receiving best gas economy? I'm averaging about 18-19 mpg in local driving (mix of city and freeway) and 21-23 mpg on a 1,000 mile trip we took when the car was a week old. I'm assuming mileage will improve once the engine settles in but that's based on my past experiences with other (and older) vehicles. The Maxima pretty much delivered the same mileage from day one up to when I retired it. Thanks -- look forward to your response. Rick Mons Purveyor of truth, objective opinion and subjective thought.
