well it was based on it, but they did some chages to it, so it was "their" engine. on the old 99 engine, the spark plugs went in like V V but the changes to | | | | in the saab block. the head was way differnent in appearance. I guess you have a piont though... it WAS based on someone else's engine. I still think of the 2.0L a true saab engine .
