Also have this problem with a Kenwood in a '83 900T in the US. Except that when I try to adjust the volume it goes from silent to eardrum blasting loud and there is NO middle ground (not a nice thing early in the morning ;). It goes back to normal when the car has heated up with the heat/defrost running for 10 minutes. I'd thought that it was a quirk of the Kenwood. Now I wonder if it isn't a bit more than that.
