Subject: Re: The dreaded turbo smoke? Classic 900

My 900 8 v Turbo bellowed out bluish white smoke on two occasions. Once it was intermittant and the other time it happened constantly whenever I accelerated. The latter occasion it proved to be a blown turbo and this was replaced. End of problem. The former was down to oil and other debris collecting in the bottom of the plastic air filter cannister. This oil was getting there via the plastic tube from the cylinder head (this is the relief overflow). When I accelerated the air suction was pulling this oil up into the engine past the air filter (which was saturated already). The saab mechanic who had just serviced the car couldn't be bothered to clean out the oil! Solution? I recommend that you redirect this oil over flow pipe so that it drains out of the engine bay and not into the air cannister. I hope this helps.
