Subject: Re: Slick 50 good or bad

Ralphie, I have to give a thumbs down on Slick 50. I tried it in 1993 in my 83 900T 5 spd. I had it put in with an oil and filter change at 195,234 original miles. I was hoping it would extend the life of my engine. It did the exact opposite. About 2000 miles later I had oil mixing with coolant in the coolant resevoir, and I had to replace the engine. The whole episode cost me over $2200, $850 for the engine, $861 to install and over $500 for a rental car, and it took 43 days to get my car back. Car engines were not designed with teflon in mind. The teflon can clog oil passages and cause problems...The one thing I have been using is Militec-1. I started using it in Jan. 94. It works. I have used it in three Saabs and a Chevy Blazer. I buy mine at the base auto parts store near my home. Check the www.apdinc.com website. They list several distributors overseas. There are one or two in England. I would still be driving my 83 900T, but it was totalled in 1995. The 87 900S was totalled on 12/12/97.
