Subject: 1987 900 Turbo Convertible Battery Problem

We have a 1987 Turbo Convertible which have restored (engine, body and new top), but it is basically a summer vehicle. It spends a good part of the fall, winter and early spring unused, but we do try to start and drive it from time to time in the off season. Each time we went to use it, the battery was dead. We charged it often, but then decided to go to a new battery. The same symptons prevailed. Someone mentioned that the security system will drain the battery if left on and the car is unused for a month or more. The manual suggests that there are two security systems. One shuts off via a switch while the other (a motion detector) shuts off by turning the ignition switch to on (but not starting the car) and back to off after 3 seconds. To my surprise, no more battery drain. As an added caution we installed a negative pole battery disconnect switch. Just thought I'd pass this along. Happy motoring.
