I believe that the 1999 model year was the first use in passenger cars. I remember hearing that the basic technology has been in use in large trucks for some time... when you're driving a big rig all day, I imagine every little bit of seat comfort is worth it! >Are the fans noisy. Yes, they're pretty noisy. You'll definitely know they're on. If you turn both front seat fans on all the way, you'll have to raise your voice a little to talk to other people in the car. However, the noise is a reasonably muted tone, and the comfort is definitely worth it. >Being from Nebraska I also wonder whether our climate calls for these >type of seats or are they more common in warmer climates. Well, I'd say the real test would be: On a hot, sunny summer day in your climate, wearing the briefest clothing you'd be likely to drive in, find some other maker's car that has a sunroof and leather seats. If, in mid-afternoon, you can get into that car without wincing, screaming, or sizzling and smoking, then you may not need the ventilated seat option. If, however, that sounds all too familiar to you, the ventilated seats are an option that you'll never want to live without again. They're expensive, but trust me -- if you have anything like warm summers, THEY'RE WORTH EVERY PENNY. I live in Rochester, NY, which is known for its cold and snowy winters. Our summers average around 85?F lately, and tend toward overcast. The ventilated seats are definitely worth the money here. -- Rob Levandowski roblnopsamhiz.com
