<Snip> Know the colour you mean, very pretty, there is a 900 4-door near me the same, paint looks fine. THe problem you describe I have never seen here. I presume its a climate / pollution problem. I don't know what Ford's problem was, but on my travels to the US I have seen very badly faded paint, cracking etc, especially in Tx etc. All the Saabs I have seen / owned haven't exhibited this problem and by checking very carefully you can detect panels that have been replaced / repaired / re- painted. It still sounds like the bonnet has been repainted at some point in the car's life. Is there any evidence of this or repair work such as bolts with no paint, overspray in the engine bay etc etc?? Finally if you are going to keep the car I would be tempted to go for a bare metal respray with a top quality two-pack paint - expensive, but if done right will last for ever with care.
