some of these symtoms are similar to my 89 900. the hard to start one the mechanic has put down to the non return valve in the fuel line near the tank being faulty. it lets the pressure out of the line. try his work around; start the motor but only flick the ignition switch on till the motor just turns then off. (leaving the ignition lights on) this runs the fuel pump for a 5- 10 sec. do this 5 or 6 times then try to start it normally. it works for me.
