Although through their Canadian representative, and a Canadian model, at a (lower) Canadian price. I have the IDS program booklet which I received with the Car, which covers the entire program (mostly US oriented). First, about delivery: you have a choice between 12 European cities. Right now, I believe there is a promotion whereby they will give you two economy (restricted) tickets on Delta to Trollhattan to pick up your car. Which presumably only works if you elect to pick it up there. However, there apparently also an option called "stateside delivery." From the booklet: "On request, Saab can ship your new car directly from the plant to any Saab dealer in the US." About catalytic converter, you get a regular US (or Canadian) car in Europe. And you get a declaration to sign that you never used leaded gas. You can keep the car in Europe for up to one year on Swedish (or, if you elect to pick up your car elsewhere, probably also on other country's) export (transit) plates. It may even be that you can keep your car longer than that but then there may be an issue with customs/import in the country where you stay (obviously not a problem for diplomats/ military personnel stationed there though). About shipping: You drop the car off at some location from a list (see saab-usa web site); three locations are free: Goteborg, Antwerp and Bremerhaven. For the other ones there is a fee. The car is shipped to a port in the US that you pick from a list: Newark, Baltimore, Houston, Charleston, Jacksonville, LA, Portsmouth, VA, San Francisco and Tacoma. Or Halifax in Canada. You got to pick up your car there (the exception being the Stateside Delivery Program - see above). Now pack to our personal experience: We were on our way to Europe already when we decided the IDS program was a better alternative to long term rental. Initially, we planned to make the delivery coincide with a scheduled trip back home so that we would be able to use the free tickets. But it turned out the car got ready way earlier than expected. We then negociated with the Canadian Saab person, went on our own to Trollhattan and got equivalent tickets for our next trip back. Our invoice was, in Canadian $: 9-3 5 doors, 2000 model $ 30,970 Leather seats $ 1,530 Leather steering w etc. $ 200 Plates + 2 months insur. $ 595 So, for the car itself, CAD $ 32,700, or about US $ 22,400. In the two months we had it in Europe, we drove about 9,300 km (6,000 mi). And BTW, last time we heard, the car was scheduled to arrive in Newark last Friday. We plan to fly from Illinois, were we currently are, to pick it up, later this week. We should then use it in the US for about seven months, still on the Swedish plates, and eventually bring it to Canada.
