Its easy to say "of course you cant build an engine of plastic ... the pressures are too high, the temps too high etc etc" however what we need to do is step back and NOT try to solve the problem of building an internal combustion engine with plastic but rather solve the problem of: how do we create an engine that is efficent? or how do we create a vehicle that is efficent? when we constrain our thinking or solutions are constrained by definition. Who says that an "engine" must be an "internal combuston engine". Why must "internal combustion engines" burn gasoline? etc etc. Why use conventional plastics? how about fiber re-inforced, thermoset, metal impregnated, permanently lubricated, etc etc. Wouldnt it be great to have a lightweight, inexpensive "motive unit" that was as easy to replace as a battery or alternator? Hell even if they only lasted 15,000 miles ... I would cary a spare in the trunk. <sigh> * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network *The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free!
