GM assumed 50% of Saab in 1990. In January of 2000 they announced their intention (fully expected) to take over the other 50%. As for the upshift light, my 1986 9000T had this in the dash and that was way before GM's influence. (and by the way, it is on the dash of my 1989 Chevy S-10 Pickup. and on my 1996 9000 Aero!) I think Saab was/is into promoting economical motoring and there for the upshift llight...the green band on the tach..all to help you boost your MPG. At any rate...I wouldn't worry about a 2000 9-3 being white bread or too GM. You have a fine automobile.
