Subject: Re: Exhaust smoke on over run..?

Dear BP Have the same thing with my 85 900 T16 with 186k miles on the clock - it has done it for the last 40k and not got any worse and I have not noticed any oil consumption. I change the oil (mobil1) every 3-4k and don't see any drop in level between changes. It's possibly a seal on the turbo compressor side thats a bit worn - when you are in overrun the high vacuum sucks the oil past the seal and when you hit the throttle again it pulls it into the cylinders and burns it. It could also be the crank case vent sucking oil through the top of the engine and into the intake. It's probably not the rings or valve guides as I would get smoke on startup, on every overrun and oil consumption. I would'nt worry too much unless you are using alot of oil - the smell's a bit anoying in the summer with the roof open though. Anyone else had this ? Johann
