Subject: '88 9000 Turbo exhaust system question

Anybody know the consequences of replacing the rear muffler on an 88 9000 Turbo with just a straight piece of pipe? Mine is rusting out and I'm considering my options. The exhaust note is so quiet with the stock system, which also has the catalytic converter and another muffler, I'm wondering how loud it would get without the resonator. I've been told that the turbocharger itself is responsible for some quieting. BTW, my last post was about my car's ACC system roasting me alive. It turns out the connector for the interior temperature sensor had come loose somehow. Plugged it back in and now it works as designed.
