Have _you_ > noticed any ABS failures when braking on ice? the "explanation" i got from tire dealer went something along the lines of; the ABS is calibrated for a specific wheel size, and supposedly this would somehow-and again, i wasn't given a real explanation-make the timing of the ABS bad. this made no sense to me, so i chose to ignore it and go on my merry way. the only thing i have noticed in regards to braking is that sometimes i feel the brake pedal go a bit further than it would normally. this only happened a few times and only over the painted parts of the road (don't know if you have crosswalks designated between painted lines in Sweden). the only thing i can even think of is that the ABS is working just fine, and with the painted road areas it just "kicks in". i'm still paying attention to it just in case something could be wrong though. the other thing that struck me as odd was that Saab recomends doing this in the first place (switching to 15 inch steel rims for winter driving). why would Saab suggest this if it was indeed hazardous to the performance of the car. i just think that the tire dealer was full of a lot of hot air, and wanted us to buy new tires from them.
