The two times I've ever had this problem before (though never with a Saab) were (a) low transmission fluid, and apparently some air in the transmission that was making it "rough", and (b) a failed torque-converter in the transmission. Thankfully at the time the latter one was covered by a warranty, but obviously yours won't be. It also probably won't be cheap or easy to fix either unfortunately. Another thing to try... try disconnecting the battery for about 20 minutes then reconnect. I've seen this on a friend's auto Camaro before, exactly the same symptoms. Draining the car's power fixed it. My suspicion is it was some sort of computer failure that threw it into disarray and it could no longer quite grasp the idea of shifting into first gear (I believe an auto tranny releases the TC before it drops into gear, and this didn't seem to be happening). As I said, a quick drain of the power and the car's been running fine since. Nice easy fix if it works :) -- Gavin Haslett thumper_svxnopsamo.com "The early bird gets the worm...
