Subject: Automatic gearbox on 9000t-88

I need comments on the automatic transmission of a 9000t16 from -88. I was the lucky owner of a 9000t16-87, meticulously taken care of, with manual transmission. Unfortunately, that was totaled a week ago, and now I'm looking for a replacement. I've found a 9000t-88, in very good shape with many of the standard "problems" fixed. Only snag is, it has got an automatic transmission, which seems to be an original, and the car has about 110k miles/175k km on it, so I have a nagging feeling it might be on the verge of throwing in the towel. Am I reasonably correct in that assumption? Anyone had experience? Average live expectancy of the transmission? And what will a new transmission set me back? I've heard a few horror stories... Any input greatly appreciated /Andy
