Subject: Re: 92 900S fuel/idle/power problem - HELP

I have a similar starting problem, for which Christopher Nowell has suggested a solution. It might be an electrical and I will be cleaning the connections in the fuse box after I send this note. I will post the results. As far as keeping the car from stalling out, you may want to check you fuel filter, if this has not been done yet. It just may be possible that you have contaninated gas, possibly with water? This is a driving hint. I got a manual because I had stalling problems in an automatics. I just could not get the shifter into neutral fast enough to keep the Ford from stalling. I got a manual transmission car and eventually learned the "bigfoot technique". The left foot works the clutch and the right foot works the brake and the gas pedal. The trick with the right foot is that it is on the brake and the gas at the same time, rocking the right foot sideways either way to achieve the desired results. This is an old trick used in downshifting. You slow the car wheels with the brake and speed up the engine, thus matching up the drive shaft speed with the next lower gear and the wheel speed. This eliminates the wear/damage that can occur if you you force the clutch to grind to match the drive shaft speed with the wheel speed. You can use this at a stop. Hold the car with the brake and rock the right foot sideways to keep the engine speed up, so it does not stall. Unfortunately, after 30 years of driving manuals, my left knee is telling to get a automatic - I am really going to miss that clutch!!
