Subject: Re: What Manual trans Oil to use - Big Debate!

I currently drive and 87 9000S 5 spd. I use Castrol GTX 10W40 with Militec-1 in my 5 spd. I used Castrol GTX in my 83 900T 5 spd (0ver 251,000 original miles) and my 87 900S. The difference with the 900 models is that I changed the oil every 20,000 to 25,000 miles. I would not use a synthetic oil in an older Saab. I have not seen the factory service bulletin recommending it for the older model 9000S, but I do know the newer models come with synthetic oil. Over the years they do make production changes. As for Redline, I have read too many posts here and on the www.saabnet.com BB from people who have used it in their 5 spds and had to replace them.
