I have an '88 900t convertible with a three-speed automatic tranny. My average RPM at 75 mph is around 4000. This results in pretty sorry gas mileage on highway trips (around 20 MPG). Actually, gas mileage is pretty sorry anyway, what with only three gears. What was Saab thinking when they gave their auto 900s three speed trannys? I talked to my mechanic about it, and he said that if I wanted better gas mileage and lower RPMs, I should swap the transmission with a 5-sp manual.
