I think this is quite normal- or maybe I should say it isn't unusual- for any car- I was in a small accident a few years back in my brother's Isuzu Trooper for the same reason- His driver's side wiper stopped and he lost all visibility in a huge downpour on the Interstate- The bolt holding the wiper had simply come loose- we tightened it, pounded his fender back into a drivable position- and continued on our way with no more wiper problems.
