Better from what perspective? The 9-3 is a little more expensive and has more passenger space. The V40 is cheaper and has more cargo space. I placed them side by side on CarPoint and found that the V40 has more standard features and options available. Safety wise, the Saab received 2-stars in European NCAP crash tests while the S40 (the sedan version of the V40) is the only car to receive 4-stars in this class. My comparison for both were for the base models. If you have specific criteria you are evaluating perhaps others here can provide some insight?
