I need to replace the crank pulley in my '84 900S. Thing is, the one for the '84 is unique, so it'd have to come out of another '84. What happened was that it had worn loose and got so much give that the pulley rubbed against the oil pump cover and wore down both the pulley and cover (not to mention leaking oil and fouling the belts up and so on). I can order a new one from Saab for about $155. I'm planning on taking the oil pump cover out of another Saab as these are about $250 new and any 8- valve should fit (so I'm told). So far, I've been unable to locate an '84 to take a crank pulley out of, let alone enough to pick a low-mileage one. It it worth hunting, or would I be far better off getting a new one as this is what went bad to begin with (and considering any used one is still going to be 16 years old)?
