Subject: Various problems with 900SE

Hi all, I have just bought a 94' 900SE 2.5 V6. The overall condition of the car is very good. The mileage is unbelievably low at 25K miles. :-) It is an automatic (for my wife). Coolant Level ************ We have driven it for a couple of weeks. One day the 'Low Coolant Level' warning light came on. I refilled the coolant and keep checking the coolant level for our later drives. I realize that the coolant is gradually dissipated, at a rate of very roughly 50-80cc (about 1cm depth of the expansion tank) per 300 miles trip. My last Saab was a 91' 2.3T (also AT). It didn't have the same problem, until one day, the coolant suddenly got mix with the transmission oil and spilled out that greasy stuff from the expansion tank! Both the transmission and the water tank were replaced, at very high cost. Do you think this coolant dissipation is normal or, just a repeat of the nightmare with the 9000 2.3T? (I used to drive a Toyota Camry (3.0 V6), which I don't need to add any coolant even for over 2 years!) Oil Leakage *********** I also realize that there is some oil leakage from the lower part of the engine. The situation is not so serious but I think it is abnormal. I check and found that it came from somewhere at/below the oil filter. Do you have any idea or similar situation? Engine Sound ************ I can hear a continuous 'tick-tick' sound from the engine. The frequency is about 3-4 tick sound per second when idle. Someone tells me that it is the sound from the valves. Is this normal or is this an indication of the valve failure? It is very expensive to go back to the dealer. I would appreciate it if some of you can help me to fix the problems. I would be most grateful if you can share with me your experience in maintaining the same car. Many thanks. Regards, Alfred
