Yes, it heats it up to 1000'C for a few seconds after the engine has been shut off. This is to ensure that the wire is clean. Do not try to clean it manually. But the engine must have been on for some time and above a certain rpm, for this auto-cleaning to happen. If the wire is broken, the ECU uses a limp-home program.
