Depending on the year, my first choice of those is the jetta, but then again, I'm cross-posting my reply from RAM.vw.aircooled, just as you did. You didn't mention any other aircooleds as choices. I think you should reconsider. > Added to my unique ness I'm looking for a car that has a separate cargo > compartment (I can seal off a hatchback) or a lot of room under the car. > And I'd highly prefer a carburated engine... Sounds like you're p;lanning a stereo system of some grand proportion... For my "science" experiment > (and cost effectiveness) I plan on converting the car to run on Propane. > And I need a place to put the tank (not allowed in a passenger compartment, > and fuel injection is messy. First, if you are in the US, propane conversion may not be what you are calling "cost effective." Second, I have been investigating LPG conversion of an aircooled VW engine, and so far the technical problems with regard to long-term reliability cannot easily or cheaply be resolved. A water-cooled VW may be a better answer (Volvo would be my next choice of the above listed, and generally good for stereos too). > Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for anytime you take to answer. I am picky about the years of watercooled VWs I like a lot. If it's strictly performance, an early generation GTI would be my first choice, Sirocco my second. While neither of these have a sealed trunk or especially large spaces underneath, for performance-oriented-only they are my personal choices. For strictly stereo (assuming that is your other intent) I would choose something more comfortable and quiet, like a Jetta or Volvo. It costs no less to make performance cars quiet than it does to make quiet cars perform, but you loose a little of the "best" qualities of each in doing so. Being older I would love a Passat Wagon, of any year. At the same time my daily drive was a '69 std beetle until just recently. Now it is a '66 std. I don't intend to make it too performance or too stereo, but a comfortable and affordable somewhere-in-between ride. You can't have it all. By the way, my other car is a Plymouth Voyager....go figure. -- *** Teach a Man to Fish *** Searoy
