Chris- This is based on previous Saabs, but probably still valid. There is a very small ahirspring inside the lock mechanicsm. This is part of the system which won't allow you to remove the key unless the car is in reverse. You have to take the lock mechanism out, turn it over, open it and take out the broken spring and either replace it of take out the extra piece of metal which the spring pushes.
