Subject: Re: Viggen Convertible

I have put 12,000 Km on my '99 Viggen Convertible in the last 4 months. Daily driven, plus some long distance (1,500 Km) runs. I love it, but the torque-steer is as bad as all the reviews I have read. But I am able to be more aggressive with the car now than when I first purchased. You have to learn how to drive it. I am considering the fitment of an Abbott Racing "Viggen Rescue Package". Below is cut from an email I recieved from the Australia distributor for Abbott Racing: 1, Viggen "rescue Pakage" Suspension Abbott Racing have now developed and standardised this package to include the following components: (i) Sports TCA Bushes - Standard TCA bushes are very soft and allow torque steer and impairs steering response. Fitting the ARM polyurethane sports TCA bushes gives approx. 30% reduction in torque steer and offers improved road holding benefits. (ii) Left-hand Steering Rack Brace - standard item allows significant rack movement and contributes to increased torque steer and loss of steering response. The ARM rack brace is a solid alloy clamp and bulkhead strut-brace to improve steering precision and offers approx. a further 50% reduction in torque steer. (iii) Suspension Arm Sports Rear Bushes - Standard bushes allow fore/aft movement of the road wheels under high acceleration and braking. The ARM polyurethane sports bushes reduces by approx. 10% torque steer and improves on steering response. (iv) Sub-frame Brace - The sub-frame of the 9-3 and Viggen is known to flex under extreme load causing torque steer and front end tracking problems. The ARM Sub-frame Brace further reduces torque steer by approx. 10%. This kit is a MUST for any serious Viggen driver! 2. Viggen Stage 1 Upgrade - Increases power from the standard 169kw to approx. 186kw and 380-400Nm torque. The kit comprises: ARM Reprogrammed Trionic ECU and re-rated Boost capsule. 3. Viggen Rear Sports Muffler - sports free-flow all stainless steel construction using the standard Viggen mounting points. Comes with a 5" oval polished chrome exit pipe which better finishes the Viggen then the standard muffler. refer enclosed jpeg file. 4. Viggen Sports Suspension - ARM sports suspension package comprising Abbott speced lowered sports springs and adjustable sports dampers. Very complimentary with the Rescue Package kit. Abbott have invested many man hours in developing the right combination of spring rates and damper rates to ensure optimal ride quality.
