Hi, Two likely possibilities are: 1) some play in the drive train (I won't be more specific since I see you drive 9000's and since the engines are mounted transversely, I don't know what the joints between the drive axles and diff look like). Anyhow, this you can test for easily by *gently* accelerating in 1st then quickly taking the foot off the pedal. CV joints (outer) are easy to check for wear. Find a parking lot, wind on full lock then start gently. Clicking sound? Try both directions . . . 2) a motor mount is loose. I had this happen to me on my M1983 99GL three years back. I finally tested for this by opening the bonnet, pulling the handbrake, selecting 1st and gently letting out the clutch. The engine kind of went into levitation (I then put in the clutch and the front of the engine fell back into the bay), so then at least I knew that it was the front mount that had failed ;-) That engine was mounted longitudinally of course. Don't know if it's possible to get such spectacular results on a 9000. Anyhow, get someone to watch the engine from the front when you do the test. 3) I said *two* possibilities ;-) that's all I can think of for now. Any other takers out there? Tell us what the problem turned out to be.
