Joel: I have an 87 9000 which displayed similar problems at about the 100k point. Was the fuel pump(s). there are two of them, one in the tank (I think) and one aside. from what I have read, it's difficult to diagnose which is bad. replacement of both at a "generalist" mechanic was about $500, parts were quite expensive. may require dropping the gas tank, which I didn't want to attempt. Stop and Rock the car when the symptoms occur again. If it runs then, for even a little while, probably the pumps.
