Subject: Re: Purchase a Saab 9-5?

<< I currently own a Volvo S70 which has had it's share of problems. Perhaps it's a fluke, but Consumer Reports for 2000 rates Volvo poorly. I was thinking of replacing it, perhaps with a Saab 9-5. Does the 9-5 have better reliability and would anyone make the trade? >> In the new issue, Consumer Reports gives the 9-5 a good reliability rating. My '92 9000 with 106k mi is a great car, that has not cost me any serious money, nor left me stranded. According to all reports the new 9-5 is even better. Just remember, anything mechanical requires maintenance. Not maintaining something to save money can be a very expensive decision. I've driven a few Volvo's as loaners when my 9000 was in for maintenance. They seem to be very nice cars, but I liked my Saab better. Rather than trade, it would be less expensive to buy a new Saab, then sell your Volvo privately. If you trade, you will take a bath, as most new car dealers make more on used car sales than new cars, typically $2,000 to $3,000 on your old car. Although I'd love to see a new Saab convert, in my opinion the cheapest thing to do would be to maintain the car you have. Eddie Bob Remove your-hat to e-mail me
