Great car (apart from the tyre wear!!!). > Wow! You mustn't have kept the other two for very long - they only came out in 1998 (here in Oz anyway). I started with Saab in 1973 with a 2 door 99, went through a couple more 99's then 900's, passing the older ones down to the kids. At one stage just before the kids left home, we had four Saabs in the family: The wife a beaut new silver 4 door 900, me a white one, daughter a white 99 5 door and son a bright orange 2 door manual 99. All great cars. Never had a 9000 - didn't think they were Saabish enough. I usually put over 100,000 miles (not km) on each one, and the only trouble I ever had was with auto transmissions - over 7 99's and 900's in total I had 3 auto transmission failures, all around 35-40,000 miles. Oh, and on the 99's the headlining used to fall down around 80,000 miles, but it was cheap and easy to replace. I usually got around 50000 miles on my tyres, more with Michelins. But on the 99's, the Michelins were very slippery in the wet, quite dangerous, I thought. They are good on the 9-5, but the contact area is much greater, and the rubber compound a bit softer. I had quite a few minor troubles with my 9-5 initially, the worst being an intermittently faulty engine computer, but Saab fixed everything under warranty and it is now running really well (cross fingers). I plan to keep it for at least 5 years, and probably longer.....but an Aero would be nice... Have fun -- Regards, Peter Wilkins (wilkinspnopsamnet.au)
