Ok, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a car genius, so what I'm about to say will thoroughly bore most of you and will make those who aren't thoroughly bored think I'm a numbskull. For the other three of you who monitor this NG, I write the following: I whacked a bend in my driver side front alloy rim. It was so bad that a place in Edmonton that specializes in repairing aluminum alloy rims couldn't fix it. Instead, they gave me a new used rim, remounted and balanced the tire. I was amazed at the size of one of the weights they used to balance the tire. Bigger than I have ever seen before for this task. Anyhow, after inflating all of my tires to their proper pressures (had to inflate the rebalanced tire anyhow) and changing the tire, I took a short little jaunt home. The little vibration that could be expected from a 12-year-old car aside, the car ran smoother than ever before! So unless you think that you're going to be buying new tires in the near future, you might want to seriously take a look at getting a simple inexpensive balancing job done. This is only one tire! I can't wait to see what it's like with four newly balanced tires! -Chris
